Delete your account

Last updated: 2026-11-04

This page is for closing a consolet account: the address you proved, and everything that hangs from it, including the encrypted copy that sync keeps on our server. It is reachable without installing anything, so that somebody who has already uninstalled the app can still ask.

You need no account to use consolet. An account exists for sync (a Pro feature), for reading the answers to your reports and for one vote per person on a feature request. If you have never signed in, there is nothing here to delete.

In the app

This is the quickest way, and it is done at once:

  1. Open the Info tab and choose Reports and ideas.
  2. Open the Account dialog and choose Delete my account and data.
  3. Confirm. The dialog asks again before it deletes, and says that it cannot be undone.

The same choice is in Settings, Sync: the Account row at the bottom of the page opens an Account dialog with Delete my account and data. Both are in every build of the app.

The answer tells you what happened. If our service could not finish, nothing was deleted, or the deletion may be partly done: asking again is safe and finishes it.

By e-mail

If you no longer have the app, write to apps@gpm.name from the address you signed in with, and say you want the account closed.

The address is the check. Deletion is irreversible, so a request that cannot be tied to the address it names will get a reply asking you to send it from that address rather than being carried out. If you no longer have access to it, say so and we will work out what else can prove it.

Expect it to be done within 30 days, and normally within a few days.

Signing out inside the app is not this. It withdraws the key on this phone and leaves the account where it is, which is what you want if you are handing the phone on rather than leaving.

What is deleted

The other phones that were signed in to the account are signed out the next time they reach the server.

What is kept, and why

Bug reports and feature requests stay, with your address removed from them. A bug is a bug once it has been reported, and a crash somebody else is still hitting should not disappear because the person who found it left. What remains cannot be traced back to you: the row loses the link to the identity rather than being deleted with it.

What stays on your phones

Everything the app holds. Your machines, your vault of keys and passwords, the host keys and certificates you trusted, and your settings are on each phone and are not touched by closing the account, because that is where they always were.

Deleting the app removes what it holds on that phone, as for any app’s private storage.

Delete only the synced copy

You can delete the encrypted copy that sync keeps on our server without closing the account:

  1. On a phone where sync is on, open Settings, then Sync, and choose Turn sync off.
  2. Choose Stop and delete the server copy.
  3. Confirm with the fingerprint or screen lock that opens your vault. This is asked on purpose: the server copy may be the only way back if a phone is lost.

It is done at once, and it needs no Pro licence, so it works after a licence has ended. The choice is there only while you are signed in, because the server has to be asked.

Starting sync again later from one of the phones makes a new vault and uploads again.

If the server could not be reached, nothing is deleted and nothing changes on the phone; the app says so, and asking again is safe.

Everything else about what this service holds is in the Privacy Policy.
